JOHNNY SHINES was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1915. It was a chance meeting with ROBERT JOHNSON his greatest influence that inspired him to begin a professional music career. He made his first recording in 1946 for COLUMBIA and recorded for CHESS in the 1950’s. He also recorded for the JOB label and VANGUARD Records. The album recorded with BIG WALTER HORTON also featured OTIS SPAN on piano. ‘Standing at the Crossroads’ is considered one of the finest solo Country/Blues albums ever issued.
