The first album released in 1975 from New York’s finest THE DICTATORS.
They attempted to bring together punk rock and heavy metal. THE DICTATORS were led by HANDSOME DICK MANITOBA and were a favourite with the CBGB crowd. The bands ‘smart guys who like dumb stuff’ humour, junk culture reference points and sixties cheesy rock covers, were tailor made for the mid seventies. At a time when the arena rock audience had not yet embraced the theatrics of SPARKS or CHEAP TRICK, THE DICTATORS ahead of their time enthusiasm for wrestling, burgers and television, confused more kids than it converted. Dozens of groups borrowed wholesale from ‘Go Girl Crazy!’ but the original is still the greatest. Tracks: The Next Big Thing, I Got You Babe, Back to Africa, Master Race Rock, Teengenerate, California Sun, Too Tub Man, Weekend, I Live For Cars and Girls.
