Roger McGuinn is an American musician best known for being a member of The Byrds. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
After the break-up of The Byrds, McGuinn released several solo albums throughout the 1970s, and in 1973 he collaborated with Bob Dylan on songs for the sound track of the Sam Peckinpah movie Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid including "Knockin' on Heaven's Door". He toured with Bob Dylan in 1975 and 1976 as part of Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue, cancelling a planned tour of his own in order to participate.
This album was released on Columbia Records in August 1991 following the success of McGuinn's comeback solo album Back From Rio earlier that same year. The album contains songs from all five of McGuinn's solo albums of the 1970s: Roger McGuinn, Peace On You, Roger McGuinn and Band, Cardiff Rose, and Thunderbird. In keeping with Byrds tradition, there’s a cover of the Dylan song ‘Up To Me’ as well as McGuinn’s version of Tom Petty’s ‘American Girl’. This compilation is a fine way to look back at McGuinn’s underrated work during that period.
