Son House
Eddie ‘Son’ House was a Delta Blues singer of deep intensity and dark passion. He started out working as a preacher but turned to blues performance in his mid-20s. After recording for Paramount in 1930, and then for Folklorist Alan Lomax in 1940 and 1942 for the Library of Congress, he had various health issues and all but disappeared, only to be rediscovered in the early 60s when he recorded an album which became known as Father Of The Delta Blues. Widely regarded as one of the finest albums of the ‘rediscovery’ era, it helped underscore Son House’s importance and his place in the Delta Blues pantheon.
